Shema Yisrael, Adonai Elocheynu, Adonai Echad. Baruch Shem k'vode malchuttoe l'ohlahm vahed. __________________ Hear oh Israel, the L-RD is our G-D, the L-RD is One. Blessed is the name of His glorious kingdom for all eternity. When we recite these words, what goes into our minds? Whom is the speaker talking to? Who is Israel? In this study, in order to discover the identity of the Israelites, we will answer questions like these: • Who is Israel? • Is Israel just the Twelve Tribes? • What does the Old Testament say? Further, we will discuss that since the Land was divided amongst the 12 tribes in the Tanakh and there are only 12 gates in the Book of Revelation, the G-D fearers from the nations shall grafted in the olive tree which is Israel, meaning that Israel is anyone who chooses to follow YHWH. The Torah of Moshe is a series of instructions given to Israel to help them to live holy lives. Within the core of the Mosaic Law (Moshe‘s Law) was the sacrificial system – evidence that YHWH knew Israel would not be able to keep the Torah; therefore, the sacrificial system declares YHWH's grace and His willingness to forgive the sins of His people. The Torah consists of three groups: • the Sacrificial (also known as the Ceremonial or Rituals), • the Moral (also known as the Ethical), and • the Civil (also known as the Judicial or Governmental) section. Further, the Torah was originally designed (as is still applicable today) only for correction, protection and direction; and cannot give you salvation at all! Torah is built on the foundational teachings for correction/protection/direction and designed for the Believer. . The Torah is the Believer‘s Life Manual. Tisha B'Av also known as "the ninth of Av” (Hebrew: תשעה באב or ט׳ באב ) is an annual day of remembrance and a fast day among the Jewish people. It is a day when they commemorate the anniversary of a several disasters that occurred in Jewish history. The most notable is the destruction of both the First Temple by the Babylonians and the Second Temple by the Romans in Jerusalem." The 9th of Av is considered as the saddest day in the Jewish calendar and it is therefore believed to be a day which is destined for tragedy. The Mournful Events. In the year is 1313 BCE, the Israelites are in the desert, recently having experienced the miraculous Exodus, and are now poised to enter the Promised Land. In the process of conquering the Promised Land, first they dispatch a reconnaissance mission to assist in formulating a prudent battle strategy. The spies return on the eighth day of Av and report that the land is unconquerable. That night, the 9th of Av, the people cry. They insist that they'd rather go back to Egypt than be slaughtered by the Canaanites. G‑D is highly displeased by this public demonstration of distrust in His power, and consequently that generation of Israelites never enters the Holy Land. Only their children have that privilege, after wandering in the desert for another 38 years." The First Temple was also destroyed on the 9th of Av (586 BCE). Five centuries later (in 70 CE), as the Romans drew closer to the Second Temple, ready to torch it, the Jews were shocked to realize that their Second Temple was destroyed the same day as the first." Six decades after the destruction of the Second Temple, the Jews once again rebelled against Roman rule. They believed that their leader, Simon bar Kochba, would fulfill their messianic longings. But their hopes were cruelly dashed in 133 CE as the Jewish rebels were brutally butchered in the final battle at Betar in the 9th of Av. One year after their conquest of Betar, the Romans plowed over the Temple Mount, Israel’s holiest site." Just over 10 centuries later, the Jews were once again experienced another blow after they were expelled from England in 1290 CE on Tisha b'Av. In 1492, the Golden Age of Spain came to a close when Queen Isabella and her husband Ferdinand ordered that the Jews be banished from the land. The edict of expulsion was signed on March 31, 1492, and the Jews were given exactly four months to put their affairs in order and leave the country. The Hebrew date on which no Jew was allowed any longer to remain in the land where he had enjoyed welcome and prosperity is in the 9th of Av." World War II and the Holocaust, historians conclude, was actually the long drawn-out conclusion of World War I that began in 1914. And yes, amazingly enough, Germany declared war on Russia, effectively catapulting the First World War into motion, on the 9th of Av, Tisha b'Av." What do you make of all this? Jews see this as another confirmation of the deeply held conviction that history isn't haphazard events – even terrible ones – are part of a Divine plan and have spiritual meaning. The message of time is that everything has a rational purpose, even though we don't understand it. [source: chabad.org]." Traditional Observance. Tisha B'Av falls in months of July or August in the Gregorian calendar. This day is observed which includes five prohibitions, to wit:" 1. No eating or drinking;" 2. No washing or bathing;" 3. No application of creams or oils;" 4. No wearing of (leather) shoes;" 5. No marital (sexual) relations." The Book of Lamentations, which mourns the destruction of Jerusalem is read in the synagogue, followed by the recitation of kinnot - liturgical dirges that lament the loss of the Temples and Jerusalem. This day has also become associated with the remembrance of other major calamities which have befallen the Jewish people. Some kinnot also recall events such as the murder of the Ten Martyrs by the Romans, massacres in numerous medieval Jewish communities during the Crusades and The Holocaust, among other things. In 2 Cor 3:6, “Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” Those who accuse the Messianic believers as legalistic are using this verse to differentiate the Letter and spirit of the law or the literal meaning of it versus “intent of the letter.” Legalism is further defined by the accusers as the excessive and improper use of the law (10 commandments, and Torah as a whole). This "act of legalism" can take different forms to wit: A person who attempts to keep the Law in order to attain salvation. A person keeps the Law in order to maintain his/her salvation. Christian who judges other Christians for not keeping certain codes of conduct that he believes need to be observed. Should we not obey the "letter" if we are fulfilling the "intention" of the Law Maker? Watch the Message >> By Eric Argel | 2016INTRODUCTION
In the first century of the common era, the believers (Jews and Gentiles) were well-connected to its Jewish roots, and Yeshua did not intend for it to be any other way. After all, Yeshua is Jewish and the basis of His teaching is consistent with the Hebrew Scriptures. In Matthew 5:17-18 He states: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Had the church understood the clear message of being grafted into the Olive Tree from the beginning? Then, the sad legacy of anti-Semitic hatred from the church may have been avoided. The error of Replacement Theology is like a cancer in the church that has not only caused it to violate G-D´s Word concerning the Jewish people and Israel, but it made some so-called Christians into instruments of hate, not love in G-D´s name. The doctrine of salvation is one of the most complex and difficult concepts for some to understand as viewed in Mark 10:13-15. Yeshua tells us that we are to come to Him like a child, innocent and humble, and if we do not have this attitude then we may not enter into eternity with Him. Understanding the doctrine of salvation is critical to knowing why a person needs to be “Saved.” One must be able to grasp that Messiah Yeshua came to save us from two things: our sin and eternal judgment. The Word - TORAH tells us that sin can only be atoned for through the sacrifice of animals. We learned that the High Priest was responsible for putting the blood of a blameless lamb on the Mercy Seat in the ancient Holy of Holies on every Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) that would cover Israel’s sin for the year. By the Feast of Tabernacles, Israel would receive the promised Messiah and Deliverer. ABBA Almighty sent His Son, Yeshua, to atone for the sin of humanity. Consequently, Yeshua is referred to as being the Lamb of God, so we know that He is the only One through which salvation can be attained (John 1:29; 1:36). It is unfortunate that nearly two thousand years after He came, we have a Jesus who is nearly devoid of any Jewish identity and a church that is almost completely severed from its Jewish roots. Although this was never G-D´s intention, we have a Jesus who is not recognizable to His own Jewish people as the Messiah of Israel. The idea of Messianic Judaism, or what some call Jewish Christianity, can be confusing to Jewish people. But, it is important to state that in general, Jewish people have not rejected Jesus or the Jewish Messiah. They simply haven´t heard a Gospel message that they can identify with or a biblically authentic representation of their Messiah. Most have many misconceptions obscuring the true identity of Jesus (Yeshua), many of them derived from a 2000-year legacy of misunderstanding about the Jewishness of Jesus. In this study, we will understand why there is a big misunderstanding on who Yeshua and His Jewishness which separate Him from the Jewish people and we will know if these arguments are true or not. Who is the real Jew? This is one of the hot topics discussed in Christianity and even in the secular world today. Why is there a need to know who the real Jews are? As far as world politics is concerned, to identify the real Jews will determine who should be the rightful owner of the land of Israel. Many claims that they no longer exist thus now it belongs to the Palestinians. The word Jew was mentioned in 276 verses in the Bible, of which, 190 verses can be found in the Brit Chadasha. The first mention of the word Jew in the Newer covenant is in Matt 2:2, referring to Yeshua, being the king of the Jews and wanted to be honoured and worshipped by the Magi but in Matt 27:37, the same phrase was used to taunt and embarrass Him. Paul in his letter the Romans made a very controversial definition of a Jew. In Rom 2:28-29, “For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of G-D.” Out of this verse came the phrase “spiritual Jew.” This phrase is not biblical and yet people are using it to claim the promises belonging to the Jews but not the persecution that comes with being a Jew. The qualifier of being a biblical Jew is in Rom 2:25-29: 1. To practice the Law (Torah) 2. To guard the righteousness of the Torah (see Deut 6:25) 3. To focus, to complete, to execute the Torah 4. A Jew is inwardly (concealed, hidden) 5. Circumcision of the heart (see Deut 30:6; Eze 36:26; 44:9) 6. In the Spirit and not in the letter (a writing, a letter, epistle) 7. Whose praise is not of men but of G-D (see Matt 5:16; 6:6) The Fake Jews. Rev 3:8-9, “I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.” Who are these fake Jews? These are those who people are liars. 1 John 2:4-5, “He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in Him. But whoso keepeth his word, in Him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him.” By Jonah Doctura | 2016INTRODUCTION
Genesis 1:26-27 And Elohim said, let us make man in our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creepers creeping on the earth. And Elohim created the man in His own image; in the image of Elohim He created him. He created them male and female. Genesis 1 declares that the purpose of YHWH, occurred before the creation of the sexes. YHWH gave the human pair joint responsibility and rulership over His creation. After the roles were defined, Satan interfered in man‘s responsibilities in a major way. The fall made YHWH cursed 4 separate things: 1. Satan. The curse over Satan - Yeshua shall bruise HaSatan’s head, meaning our Saviour, Yeshua will be born in the flesh in the years to come to destroy Satan's power. But still there is the sin trying to overpower man. 2. The woman. This curse over the woman consists of two parts: a) In pain you shall bring forth children. b) And "your husband shall rule over you". The desire that sin had for Cain was a desire to dominate and overpower. Therefore, it’s very possible that the desire that women have as a result of the curse is the desire to dominate and overpower their husbands. 3. The Earth. The L-RD will redeem the heavens and the earth by creating The New Heavens and the New Earth. 4. The man. The L-RD made the man responsible for the garden and also for the woman. He still holds man to be the spiritual leader and to protect his house. Watch the Message >> By Richard Sison | 2016INTRODUCTION
Ruth is the seventh book in the Christian Bible but 31st in the Hebrew Tanakh. In as much as number seven is a biblical number and Ruth’s position as the seventh book is an interesting thing by itself, looking at it from the Hebrew perspective would give an even interesting insight. Let us consider the Hebraic significance of 31, to wit: 1. The Hebrew word for G-D is אל (El), composed of the Hebrew letters Lamed (representing 30) and Aleph (representing 1), which totals to the number 31. 2. Josiah, considered the best king of Judah after Israel split into two nations, began his reign at the age of eight and ruled for 31 years (640 to 609 B.C.). 3. One of the most commonly occurring names in the Bible is Moses, which appears in 31 books. 4. One of most frequently mentioned woman in Scripture is Rebekah (Isaac's wife), whose name appears 31 times. Rebekah is one of the very few individuals in the Bible who showed what a Hebrew word “chesed” really means. 5. The book of Luke contains materials from 31 Older covenant books, the second highest in the New Testament. In the Jewish tradition, there are five Megillot (or scrolls) being read during certain times:Ruth is read on Shavuot or Pentecost as part of the program of study or in preparation for the feast. There are several reasons for this custom: 1. Shavuot is the birthday and yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of King David, and the Book of Ruth records his ancestry. Ruth and her husband Boaz were King David’s greatgrandparents. 2. The scenes of harvesting described in the book of Ruth are appropriate to the Festival of Harvest in time of Shavuot. 3. Ruth was a sincere convert who embraced Judaism with all her heart. On Shavuot all Jews were converts—having accepted the Torah and all of its precepts. Watch the Message >> |
